Heed or watch Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper and former New Jersey Gov. Christine Todd Whitman talk to MSNBC's Ali Velshi about compromise and unity in times of extreme partisanship. Then vote for their ideas
December. 04, 2018
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper made his reputation on working across the alley with his Republican counterparts in the legislature to pass gun control legislation and budgets, among other things. Erstwhile New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman has long held her own reputation as a moderate Republican focused more on getting things done than playing partisan politics.
At The Citizen'southward inaugural Ideas Nosotros Should Steal Festival, they talked with MSNBC host Ali Velshi most just how rare that sort of governance is these days—and why America needs information technology more than always.
"Compromise is a dingy discussion these days," Whitman said. "Y'all hear information technology and people think yous lost something—only there is no one group that has all the right answers."
If you missed the discussion, or but want to hear it over again, mind on CitizenCast below.
Or, scout the governors in conversation with MSNBC'southward Ali Velshi below.
In the course of the discussion, Hickenlooper offered two Ideas Nosotros Should Steal: Mail in voting. And open up primaries. Both have increased turnout in Colorado.
And Whitman offered one Idea We Should Steal: Bringing high-speed MagLev trains to the Northeast, which would go from Philly to New York in nether 30 minutes.
Charge per unit those ideas here.
